Celtics Acquire Kristaps Porzingis in Blockbuster Deal

Trade with Wizards Brings First Round Draft Pick to Boston

Porzingis Joins Celtics as 8 Forward-Center

The Boston Celtics have made a major splash ahead of the 2023-2024 season, acquiring centerforward Kristaps Porzingis from the Washington Wizards in a three-team deal. The Celtics gave up a 2023 Memphis first-round draft pick in exchange for Porzingis, who agreed to opt into his current contract.

Porzingis, a 29-year-old Latvian, is a 7'3" center who brings a wealth of experience and skill to Boston. He was selected with the fourth overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks, and has since played for the Dallas Mavericks and Washington Wizards.

Porzingis is a skilled scorer and rebounder, with career averages of 18.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. He is also a capable shooter, hitting 35.8% from three-point range over his career. His size and athleticism will give the Celtics a much-needed presence in the paint.
